Friday- 11th June, 2021: Five million trees are being planted in Ghana on Friday in an attempt to restore the country's forests.
President Nana Akufo Addo has said he'll join in what will be an annual event and urged all Ghanaians to take part.
In a video statement he asked citizens to help preserve the environment by nurturing the saplings.
The trees will be planted on degraded land, but also in other places like church premises and people's homes.
Officials estimate that 80% of Ghana's forest cover has been depleted since 1900.
The country is already feeling the impact of climate change.
It's estimated that crop yields will diminish by 7% by the middle of the century.
