Tuesday 29th June, 2021: The wife of Kaduna State governor, Hajia Hadiza El-Rufai, on Monday emerged as the Chairperson of the Northern Governors Wives’ Forum, (NGWF).

The election of Governor El-Rufai’s wife followed the election of new executive members of the NGWF held in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Hadiza, who was unanimously elected for a-two-year tenure, takes over from Amina Bello, wife of the Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello.

In her acceptance speech, Her Excellency, Hadiza El-Rufai, demanded that women should be given adequate opportunities to contribute to nation-building.

She called for intense lobby of the federal and state legislators to allocate “a certain percentage of seats for women” in the parliament as they continued work on the amendment of the 1999 Constitution.

According to her, “This is because we cannot compete equally with the men. We all know that, politics involved huge money and strong financial strength and women are not so strong financially, hence the need for the allocation of certain percentage for women in elective offices”.

Others elected to be part of the new executives of the Northern Governors Wives’ Forum included Olufolake Abdulrazaq (Kwara) elected as the Vice-Chairperson while Anna Ishaku (Taraba) was elected as the Secretary of the forum.

Mariya Aminu Waziri  (Sokoto) is the Welfare Officer, Asma’u Yahaya (Gombe) emerged as the Treasurer while Regina Lalong (Plateau) was elected as the Public Relations Officer.
