Saturday 7 August 2021: Brazil’s Under 23 football team have defeated Spain 2-1 to claim Tokyo 2020 Olympics gold medal.
The South American side have thus won the football gold medal at the Olympics in succession.
At Rio 2026, the Neymar-led side claimed Brazil’s first football gold.
In the final match played on Saturday, Brazil stormed into the lead through Matheus Cunha’s goal during added time in the first half.
Dani Alves laid the ball off to Matheus Cunha, who shot from close range into the bottom right corner, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.
Spain equalised on 61 minutes through Mikel Oyarzabal.
Carlos Soler had sent a precise lofted cross into the box. Mikel Oyarzabal latched on to it and finished with a quick shot inside the left post. The goalkeeper had no chance.
The match ended 1-1 on duration time, necessitating an extra-time and possible penalty kicks to decide the winner.
But Brazil were the most adventurous and got the winning goal on 108 minutes from the boot of Malcom.
Antony had found himself with the ball in space after a lightning counter attack.
He looked and up-slided the ball to Malcom, who coolly slotted the ball past the keeper from close range.
