Thursday- 12th August, 2021: Chrisland University, Abeokuta in collaboration with JARIS Computational Biology Centre, Jos has organised a 4-day hands-on training, titled ‘Hands-on Computer-Aided Scientific Research.’

The training which stated from Monday, 9th of August to Thursday, 12th of August 2021 was held at the University's campus in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.

In the course of the training, the topics discussed were: A-Z Molecular Docking, Homology Modeling, ADMET Screening Hit and Lead Optimization, and Phamacophore Modelling

In her remark, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola said the training was to train the lecturers on drug discovery, in order to transfer the knowledge into their research work and their teaching as well.

Babalola said that the major reason why we are yet to discover our own drugs is because of our lack of resources and our impatience to wait for 10-15 years, also emphasizing that most of what we supposedly call drugs are actually supplements.

Chairman of Local Organizing Committee, Dr. Bilikis Folarin, said that the goal of the training is to train scientists on how to discover and design drugs that can be of therapeutic use even in their homes, without going to the laboratories thereby saving time and money without compromising the effectiveness of the drug.
