ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH GROUP ALERTS FG ACTION ON SECURING THE ECOSYSTEM

Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) has called for federal government declaration of state of emergency on areas devastated due to activities of oil spill.

Director of the Foundation, Nnimmo Bassey, during the inauguration of HOMEF Sustainability Academy held in Abuja disclosed the need for immediate action to secure the ecosystems and the lives of Nigerians which is now threatened by the environmental damage caused by oil spills as a result of oil exploration in Nigeria’s Delta region.

According to him, the former Ambassador of the Plurinational State of Bolivia to the United Nations and lead negotiator of the country on climate change, Pablo Solon Romero revealed that Africa is becoming the most exposed region of the world to climate change.

He however purported that countries that generate more greenhouse gases must show more commitment to solving the problem, stressing that civil society pressure is the key to making this a reality.
