Monday 25th Oct.2021:Market women in Delta State, numbering over 200, this morning, embarked on a peaceful protest against the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Godwin Adode.
The protesting market women who took to the ever-busy East-West Road barricaded the highway with their wooden chairs and tables while hurling curses on the council chairman.
Reports say that the protest was for the proposed relocation of the market from Otovwodo to Okogbe Street in Ughelli by the council chairman which the women have resisted the move.
The protest, which started around 8:00 am, caused gridlock on the highway, leaving commuters and motorists stranded.
The intervention of Policemen and soldiers who arrived at the scene of protest to prevent the breakdown of law and order has however not deterred the women as reports claim that the operatives were chased away by the protesting women.

As at the time of filing this report  the protest was still ongoing as some youths had also joined in solidarity.
