The chief medical director of First Consultants Medical Centre, Dr Benjamin Ohiaeri, has appealed to Nigerians against stigmatising the Ebola survivors, saying that the healthcare workers gave their lives to save others.

He added that, “Although, we suffered some tragedy – losing about four of our competent staff, maintaining best international practices has saved the lives of many Nigerians.”

Dr Ohiaeri who said this yesterday in Lagos while addressing journalists, also charged medical practitioners to always comply with international best practices even when faced with possible litigation.

Ohiaeri who said his hospital lost good hands made this known when representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO) led by Ms Samantha Bolton visited the hospital. He used the opportunity of the visit to explain the hospital’s role in handling the first official case of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Nigeria.
