Polokwane City shrugged off the challenge of Moroka Swallows by beating the Dube Birds 2-1 in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge at Tuks Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The match got off to a blistering start with Polokwane City FC the dominant side. Polokwane midfielder Mothusi Gopane was the main man for the Limpopo side. He was all over the show and made things happen for Polokwane. He caused havoc for Swallows defence on the left wing.

Gopane opened the scoring in the 18th minute of the match. The goal gave Polokwane the much needed courage to attack Moroka Swallows, who looked unsettled in the initial stages of the first half.

Swallows would later respond through Nduduzo Ngobese, who scored the equaliser in the 36th minute. The two sides went to the break at 1-1.

Few seconds after the restart, Polokwane City regained their lead. The masses were still settling when Mothusi, who was outstanding, got into the thick of things again. He received a cross just outside the box on the left and he fired a low shot that was tapped in by Sakhile Ngubo in the 46th minute.

With Swallows trailing, the players from Soweto forced their way back but their attacks were hurried. They fluffed a number of chances.

Polokwane continued to dominate but they also fell short when it came to scoring. Towards the end of the match Swallows pushed forward and Polokwane were forced to defend.

Swallows are still looking for their first win in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge while Polokwane cruised to their second win of the competition.
