Gunmen attack banks, police station in Edo, kill seven

Seven persons have been killed on Thursday as armed robbers attacked four banks in Uromi, Esan north-east LGA of Edo state.

It was also learnt that the armed men attacked a police station in the Auchi area of the state.

According to report, two police officers and five civilians including a mad man lost their lives in the ugly incident.

Confirming the incident, Bello Kontong, police public relations officer (PPRO) in Edo, said the armed robbers used dynamite to attack the banks and police station.

He said “There are four banks that were attacked — UBA, Zenith Bank, First Bank and Union Bank.”

“We lost two police officers including one from the division that was attacked — a female constable and then a sergeant that is from Auchi in Zenith bank.

“So, the total casualties of human beings are seven — two police personnel and five civilians — including a mad man.”
