A lawmaker from Borno State, Mr. Abdulrahman Terab has said Boko Haram is still in control of some local government in Borno states with thousands of residents still displaced while young women were forced into marriages.

Speaking on Thursday during sitting of House of Representatives, Terab named Bama, Ngala, Kala-Balge and other adjoining local government areas around Bama/Ngala/Kala-Balge Federal Constituency as the affected areas, following our reports.

He debunked earlier reports that Nigerian troops had reclaimed the said local governments, saying Boko Haram was still in control.

He said: “Contrary to earlier reports that the said local government areas were reclaimed by the Nigerian Government and are now under the control of Nigerian troops, they are still under the control of the Boko Haram insurgents.

“Young women and teenage girls in those areas are not being spared, as they are facing all sorts of abuse, torture and forced marriages.

“The insurgents are enforcing all manner of laws and are also arbitrarily killing their captives‎.”

Terab, who represents the affected areas, noted that about 200,000 villagers who were displaced due to Boko Haram attack were still living in the Republic of Cameroon without basic amenities like food and shelter.

The house which noted that the security situation in the affected local governments was still precarious, therefore called “additional manpower” and security beef up to flush out the insurgents in those areas.

It also asked the National Emergency Management Agency to liaise with their Cameroonian counterparts to provide relief materials to the refugees in “Fotokol, Kusuri and Garwa in the Republic of Cameroon.”

The dreaded Boko Haram sect has continued to carry out incessant attacks in different parts of the country and neigbouring countries like Cameroon.

The insurgents have killed thousands, injured many and displaced a number of people from their homes. They have claimed responsibilities for several attacks and abductions, most especially the abduction of over 200 girls from Chibok, Borno.

Meanwhile just recently, the Acting Inspector General of police, Suleiman Abba, assured Nigerians that the dreaded Boko Haram will soon be put to an end.
