CEOAFRICA.com gathered that the United States Department of State has concluded a counter-terrorism leadership course for police officers in Nigeria as part of measures to assist Nigeria in tackling terrorism.
Sources disclosed that the training which focused on techniques needed to develop the most effective means of detecting bomb, crime scene investigation, airport and building security, maritime protections, and VIP protection, aimed to correct perceived deficiencies in the counter-terrorism campaign and to cement harmonious synergy between command police officers and anti-terrorism unit of the force.
The training, which was held in Abuja, was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anti-terror Squad, the DCP, Bomb Disposal Unit, Squadron commanders and select Mobile Police commissioners. The training session was handled by counter-terrorism experts from the US Department of States and other security consultants.
Furthermore, the training which was sponsored by the United States, seek to ensure proper coordination and effective direction for the nation’s anti-terrorism programmes and also help to provide necessary resources to police officers at command position.
It was considered to be the outcome of the recently held US-Nigeria Bi-National Commission presided over by US Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Wendy Sherman in Abuja.
