From Sudan, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that four peacekeepers are yet to be found in the region of Darfur when they were escorting an aid convoy.

It was furthered gathered from Rania AbdulRahman, UN official, that the missing peacekeepers were swept away by flood. They were said to be on their way to Misterei, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) south-west of the regional capital Geneina, with a World Food Programme (WFP) convoy when a flash flood hit.

"The incident occurred while the peacekeepers attempted to pull out their truck which was stuck in the mud of a river valley," she said.

The flood which affected more than 300,000 people across Sudan has killed close to 50 people in August alone.

Meanwhile, another two peacekeepers were saved from the flood by a rescue team.

The region around the capital Khartoum had been particularly badly hit and was experiencing the worst floods in 25 years, it said.

The nationality of the missing peacekeepers has not been released by UN as at the time of this report.
