The All Progressives Congress (APC) may reverse the schedules for its primaries to start with the presidential primary, According to the reports.

It was reportedly gathered from reliable sources within the party on Sunday that the decision followed intense lobbying by governors and other powerful party members interested in contesting for various positions in 2015 elections.

The source said APC state governors have proposed a review of the schedule of the primaries to start with presidential primaries, adding that the issue was discussed and kept under wraps at the last National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party. It said it got the proposal from the National Working Committee (NWC) as part of its mandate to review the timetable for the primaries.

However, a meeting held last week between the national leadership and state chairmen of the party ended in a deadlock when the proposal to start with the presidential primary was brought forward. The source further hinted that the said meeting was with the state chairmen was used to persuade them to agree to the proposed arrangement before the party’s NEC meeting which held on Friday.

The source said revealed that the NEC meeting on Friday discussed issues bordering on primaries and ratification of the amended constitution as well as convening an extra-ordinary convention on Wednesday to ratify the NEC decisions.
