From Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that a new mayor has been chosen for the capital city by President Robert Mugabe. He is the out going deputy Minister of Justice, Obert Gutu.

The new mayor replaced lawyer Muchadeyi Masunda, and will be deputized by Thomas Muzuva, Kambuzuma councilor-elect. He will take oath of office next week and is expected to occupy the position for the next five years.

Meanwhile, analyst says the new mayor is expected to tackle water crisis, high unemployment rate, battered roads and housing shortages.

Describing the appointment as a welcomed development, a prominent Political Scientist Gideon Chitanga said,”Harare needs investment infrastructure, transport and housing and in Gutu, the city will be served by people who will not be inspired by self enrichment but who are inspired by public service.”

He also said,” Obviously, he faces a mammoth task and he should be imaginative and innovative in terms of coming up with good models of local governance that will allow a system that is accountable and also deliver on the needs of the residents of Harare.”
