In the height of the controversy surrounding the water resources bill, the Chairman of the Northern Caucus in the House of Representatives, Sarki Musa Ardar has debunked reports that northern lawmakers are moving to impeach Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila on the controversial water bill.
Arda, a lawmaker from Katsina State, raised a point of order on Tuesday on the floor of the House.
He said the report on Sahara Reporters that the lawmakers led by him concluded plans to smuggle in the bill during the holiday and to impeach Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila is not true.
Also speaking on the report, the Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business, Hassan Fulata from Jigawa State also dismissed the report and described the newspaper as an “imperialist backed medium”.
He affirmed that the lawmakers will not be forced to take a decision. He added that the northern lawmakers are fully behind Mr Gbajabimaila who is currently outside the country.
Likewise, the minority leader, Ndudi Elumelu also spoke against the report, describing it as stupid.
In his ruling, the Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase, who presided over plenary said the House must avoid needless distraction.
