Jigawa boat accident claims two lives, six missing

No fewer than two persons were on Monday confirmed dead in another boat accident in Dabi village area of Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The Chairman of the affected LGAS, Shehu Sule Udi, who confirmed the incident during an interview said that it happened on Sunday evening and the victims were on their way to a condolence visit from Dabi to Siyango village.

Udi said the bodies of seven out of the 13 victims had been recovered, while the remaining six are still missing.

The Jigawa Police Command Public Relations Officer, Lawan Shiisu Adam, who also confirmed the boat mishap said the search and rescue team were launched with the assistance of local divers and seven people were recovered in the process, while the remaining six are still missing.

“Two out of the seven recovered victims were confirmed dead by a medical doctor, while the rest five, who are in critical condition, are still receiving medical attention.’’

Adam said Preliminary investigations revealed that the canoe hit an object and gradually sunk while the occupants drowned.

Meanwhile, the Police spokesman disclosed that efforts are still in progress toward searching for the bodies of the remaining six victims.
