Human rights’ activist, Aisha Yesufu, has revealed that the Igbos are the most hated set of people in Nigeria, stating the reasons behind such hatred.
Speaking in a six minutes and 29 seconds’ video that has been viral on various social media platforms, Aisha Yesufu, said that the Igbo people are the most hated tribe in Nigeria because they represent success and will never give up.
She stated further that the Igbos’ continuous perseverance to their dream even when everyone sees it as failure is part of the reason for their being the most hated ethnic nationality in the country.
She said, “My dear Igbo brothers and sisters, how are you? I just want to have a conversation with you. It is going to be a one sider conversation. I see many of you, most times, talking about the fact that you are hated all over Nigeria, that you are the tribe that is most hated and I say to you why not? Why shouldn’t you be the tribe that is most hated? You have to understand something. The hatred, anger, annoyance or whatever it is that people exhibit towards you, is not personal. It is not to you, as a person that you are, it is more or less about what you represent. And what is it that you represent? You represent success. You represent, ‘never give up’ spirit. You represent audacity, that would dare, go and succeed, even when everybody sees failure. How do you expect that you will not be hated?”
“So, the thing that you should focus on is, do not bother about whether people are hating you or not, that’s their business, that is not your business. Your business is to keep shining and keep doing what you are doing. Your business is to continue to be audacious. Your business is to continue to dare. Your business is to continue to achieve and have achievement. Your business is to observe where people see failure; see success there, put in the work and get success, of course they will hate you.  Do you think they will like you before? You think they are going to bring you roses? No!”
“The reason is because, in whatever you are doing, where are lot of people give up and do not try, do not persevere and do not continue, you dare do, you go on, you persevere, you prove everybody wrong; when they see that certain things will not succeed, you make it succeed. How do you then think you will not be hated? Come on, you can’t have it all! You can’t have being audacious, being daring, being an achiever, and then you want to be loved, that’s not possible. Why are you bothered?”
“Let me give you example; I am an Edo woman and if you want to know what Edo woman means, if you are not married, whatever tribe you are, tell your parents that you want to marry an Edo woman and see what they are going to say. Any Edo woman you see, we no dey fear face, you do anyhow, you see anyhow, we are very loud, we no dey carry last, and of course, there are some who don’t like us. Is that our problem? No. it is not our problem. It is their problem. So, it is the same with you also.”
“Let me give you another example, if you go around Africa, when they are talking about Nigeria, a lot of people don’t like Nigerians, because we are daring, audacious; when other Africans are acting tin tin tin, we are bold. Should we care that they don’t like us? No! we are not going to limit ourselves because they don’t like us. So, that is the truth about life. The moment you are succeeding, people will not like you. It is not personal; it is what you represent. If you now turn to be like them, no longer successful and no longer dare, then they will love you. Who love help? So, forget about those things.”
“Your greatest enemy are not even the people who are saying they don’t like you, your greatest enemy are your brothers and sisters who tell you that you should be cowards in your own country, who tell you that you that you should accept being third position or second citizen. Those are your true enemy. You might have the same thing in common, but in truth, that mind is not there.”
“Those are the people that will talk to you and talk you down and tell you not to do certain things; that you should be okay with second position, be okay with third position. Your ancestors didn’t allow you to be in second position in any country and neither will Nigeria be that country that you will be that second-class citizen. Let me tell you something, no Nigerian is more Nigerian than any Nigerian. And you have the right to vote and be voted for. You have the right to support any candidate, you have the right to have one of you being president, the same way everyone has the right to be president, so don’t allow anybody to tell you that you should not dare, you should dare and continue to dare; you will continue to win.”
“So, what do you need love for? The most important is for you to love yourself.  Most importantly, I will say to you that you should not allow yourself to be disrespected in this country, do not allow yourself to be marginalized. Stand your ground. Whoever it is that doesn’t like you, should wear earplugs. Thank you.”
