The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday reversed the March 8 verdict by Justice Inyang Ekwo, of the Federal High court, Abuja, which fired the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi and his deputy for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A three-member panel of the appellate court ruled that Nigeria’s constitution do not provide any punishment for a Governor or Deputy Governor who defects from the party on which platform he/she got to office.
The presiding Judge, Justice Haruna Tsanami said the only option the aggrieved party can explore is the impeachment option provided in the Constitution.
