The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has urged the embattled chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, Chief Jide Awe to surrender himself for trial.
A Federal High Court sitting in Jos had earlier gave a restraining order stopping police from arresting him, the same court has vacated the order
In a statement signed by the State Secretary of the PDP, Dr Tope Aluko and the made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday wondered why the APC was running from pillar to post to evade arrest by the police
According to him, Awe could only prove his innocence by submitting himself for trial in the court of law, noting that seeking frivolous injunctions around the country would not assist him.
According to PDP Chief, Awe decision to go too far away to Jos, Plateau State to seek injunction rather than submitting himself for trial in Ado Ekiti shows that he has something hidden under his sleeve
Since the court has vacated its earlier order, the party therefore called on the police to swing into action and effect the arrest of Awe and other APC suspects who had allegedly committed the killing of late Ayo Jeje and Madam Julianal Adewumi at Erijiyan Ekiti
In a related development, the Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Public Communications and News Media, Lere Olayinka has described claim by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that four of the inmates that escaped from the Ado Ekiti Prison custody on Monday were being harboured at the Government House in the state as misleading
“The APC spokesperson, Taiwo Olatunbosun must have made the allegation, thinking that Governor Ayodele Fayose is also running a government of criminals like the immediate past APC governor of the State, Dr Kayode Fayemi.”
“That statement is no doubt a clear advertisement of the APC spokesperson’s idiocy because even a five year old child knows that a governor has legal powers to free prisoners. A governor can even free condemned prisoners. So, can a governor who is empowered to free prison inmates harbour inmates who escaped from the prison?”
In a statement in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, Olayinka said it was on record that during the APC government of Fayemi, suspected murderers were housed in the government house to prevent their arrest, while those who were charged to court for murder were set free by the State government.
He said; “It is what a dogs eats that it thinks others also eat. Because the APC government of Fayemi harboured those who shed the blood of innocent Ekiti sons and daughters, the attention-seeking party spokesperson now believes that the government of Fayose will also do the same’.
“It is on record that a top member of the APC, who killed Teslim Abiodun, a 400 Level Accounting Student of the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti was harboured in the government house for months.
“A member of the State House of Assembly, Hon Kehinde Boluwade, who is standing trial for the murder of Foluso Ogundare was kept in the government house for months, and when he (Boluwade) and eight others were eventually arrested and charged to court, Fayemi had to sign 10 Certificates of Occupancy in one day to effect their release from prison custody.
“It is also on record that it was the APC government of Fayemi that frustrated the trial of the party’s Chairman, Jide Awe and four others accused of killing Ayo Murphy Jeje and Juliana Adewumi.
“Also, it was the APC government that made a no case submission to free former Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Rotimi Olabiwonu (alias Mentilo) and former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mr Tajudeen Hassan and others that were arrested and charged to court in connection with the murder of Chief Adeleye Awolumate and attempted murder of a six months old pregnant woman, Adeola Akande.
“The concern of Governor Fayose is to see to it that all those who cut short the lives of innocent Ekiti indigenes under whatever guise are made to face the full wrath of the law.
“The APC and its lying members in Ekiti State should therefore take note that no amount of blackmail, arm-twisting and propaganda will deter the governor from ridding the State of killers, who disguise as politicians.”
