The International Criminal Court (ICC) has withdrawn charges of crimes against humanity against President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya.

Mr. Kenyatta was charged at The Hague-based court over his alleged role in the post-election that engulfed his country in 2007.

At least 1,000 people were killed.

ICC prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, said the charges could not be sustained.

A statement said the evidence had “not improved to such an extent that Mr Kenyatta’s alleged criminal responsibility can be proven beyond reasonable doubt”, the BBC reports.
