The Ihiala Local Council Headquarters of Anambra State was under attack on Thursday morning as gunmen invaded the Local Government secretariat and set it ablaze.
It was learned that the gunmen stormed the area at about 1.30 am firing gunshots and exchanging fire with the local vigilante group which they over- powered before gaining entry into the local government premises.
The gunmen who headed to the Administrative block of the council area burnt down the building.
They also burnt down the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Civil Defense building, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) office and the Health department of the council.
Residents of the area reported that the shooting was very intense and lasted for about three hours.
It was in the process that two members of the Ihiala local vigilante group were shot dead while the gunmen lost one of their gang members.
It would be recalled the gunmen had attacked the Ihiala Police Division office about two weeks ago before Thursday’s attack.
The gunmen after executing their plot were said to have escaped to the neighbouring Orlu town in Imo state where it was alleged that they came from.
