Armed men have attacked a police compound in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi, according to officials.
Local media reported that armed men attacked the compound on Friday and heavy firing and some explosions were heard outside the premises.
The compound is home to several police buildings and the residences of officers.
Karachi police chief, Javed Alam Odho, confirmed that an attack was under way and said police and and paramilitary troops were responding.
It wasn’t clear who was behind the assault on the police compound, the police chief added.
“The number of the attackers is not yet clear,” Sindh province information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon told Pakistani broadcaster Geo TV.
Gunfire and explosions heard outside the police compound in the southern Pakistani city, according to local media.
