ACCOUNTANT GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION, MR. JONAH OTUNLA
The Federal Government has from April 2007 till date been able to save over N120 billion from the discovery of ghost workers using its Integrated Payroll & Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
CEOAFRICA news correspondence has gathered this from the declaration the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Jonah Otunla who also said the savings were partly from discovery of ghost workers.
The other part the accountant general said was from excess personnel costs discovered to have been channelled to non-personnel sub-heads by ministries, departments & agencies (MDAs) but returned at the instance of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
He purported that from April 2007 when the scheme commenced to date, 246 MDAs were enrolled with a total number of 250,000 staff and over N120 billion cumulatively saved as a result of the difference between the amount the government would have released to the MDAs based on appropriation and actual amount released and paid through IPPIS.
The AGF also noted that the IPPIS has also led to the reformation of personnel process and payroll.
