Ahead of the 2014 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, a non partisan group, Anambra Peoples’ Forum have resolved to support Dr. Ifeanyi Uba as the next governor.

    Disclosing why Uba was picked as candidate, president of the forum, Honourable Alfred Chukwuka Chine, explained that the resolution was made after a careful and well delineated look at the state and its massive inhabitant vis-a-vis their goals, needs and aspirations.

    He said, “We consulted with our counterparts in Anambra and beyond and the consensus is that the state is yearning for a young, flawless character. Names were collated and sent to various states of the federation for opinion evaluation and Dr. Uba’s name was by far ahead of the second choice. He was seen by respondents as having a great relationship with the entire sundry, not only in his state of origin, but in Nigeria generally.

    “The seeming decay in our system must be checked, at least in Anambra State. The only way to achieve this objective is by choosing a focused, sincere and dynamic leadership for the state, failure to do this now, our generations yet unborn will inherit a system where armed robbery and kidnapping will be a preferred means of livelihood. God forbids this situation to take place in our beloved state.”

    Chine hinted that another reason for choosing the person of Uba is not unconnected with the lack of physical federal presence since 1970 and is therefore incumbent on the state to rely on excellent leadership to do for itself what the federal government cannot do for her.    “It is an acknowledged truth that since the inception of democracy in Nigeria in 1999, the state has been blessed with dedicated leadership, with the exception of a few. We therefore champion and clamour for a governor that will build upon, and surpass the gains of past governors of the state.”

    The president of the body in addition eulogised as having a successful business empire which he employs to touch lives positively regardless of where the person is from.

    “Dr. Uba is overwhelmingly involved in so many community projects in Nigeria. He has awarded scholarships to students of different states which includes home and overseas studies. By doing this, he has touched and still touching indigent hearts, whose hopes in life were formally dashed,”

    Citing one of Uba’s positive programme, Chine added: “Dr. Uba demonstrated his loyalty to his state of origin when he made Anambra state his first port of call during the dissemination of kerosene, otherwise tagged, ‘kerosene at affordable price for all’ programme. The gestures will not be forgotten by the grassroots not only in Anambra state, but Nigeria in general. We have articulated and aggregated the interest of the people of Anambra State and have found that Dr. Uba’s principles are synonymous with them.

    “This forum has also without bias or prejudice studied Dr. Uba’s antecedents carefully and concluded that the state needs his stewardship and we must actualise it for him. We are using this medium to declare our total support for him in the impending gubernatorial race.”
