On WSCD June 19th 2023, the Sickle Cell Hope Alive Foundation (SCHAF) organized an Awareness Rally at Oja- Oba Market to mark the World Sickle Cell Day. The event was aimed at raising awareness about Sickle Cell Disease and its impact on individuals and families to sensitize youths towards SCD PREVENTION. The rally was well attended, with market youths from the community coming together in support of the program.
The event was led by Professor Adeyinka Falusi, the Founder and Trustee of Sickle Cell Hope Alive Foundation, and an active advocate for People Living with sickle cell disease (PLWSCD). She gave an informative talk on the disease, highlighting the challenges of SCD, importance of early detection, treatment, and management of the disease as well as the easy to reach preventive approach available to youths. The Oyo State NYSC supported with a Music band.
Towards the WSCD, SCHAF planted KNOW YOUR GENOTYPE (KYG) clubs in Schools & the University of Ibadan all in June 2023. On Sunday 18th June SCHAF took Awareness to the CHURCH. Overall, the activities of SCHAF for the 2023 WSCD was a huge success which will further spread awareness about sickle cell disease in the community.
