The planned strike by Aviation Security (AVSEC) and logistics sub-sector may have been shelved following the intervention of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

A source close to the NCAA told CEOAFRICA source today that Capt. Musa Nuhu, the Director-General Civil Aviation (DGCA), intervened yesterday evening and appealed to the leadership of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) to shelve the strike in order for the regulatory body address the issue appropriately.

Also, Comrade Ocheme Aba, the General Secretary of NUATE, confirmed the development.

Aba told our correspondent that the union had also informed its members nationwide to not to embark on the strike yet due to the intervention of the apex regulatory body.

According to him, the NCAA asked for a week extension in order for it to intervene on the issue.

He, however, said that the union was over to get the official letter from NCAA, lamenting that the issue had been on in the past one week.

He said: “Our planned strike was supposed to start in the afternoon, but the intervention of DGCA is making us to rescind the decision. Like I said earlier, we hope to get their letter this morning.

Details later…
