As part of its efforts at sustaining the growth of the Pharmaceutical industry in Nigeria and maintaining strict adherence to industry best practices, the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Professor Cyril Odianose Usifoh, is representing Nigeria at the annual World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, organised by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), currently being held in Brisbane Australia.
The Congress theme for this year; Building a sustainable future for healthcare-Aligning goals to 2030,is in line with its mission to support global health, through advancing of pharmaceutical practice, science and workforce education to solidify the Global Body's commitment to its 2030 Agenda for development and advancement, while providing members with a way to commit nationally , regionally and globally.
Speaking with CEOAFRICA, the Erudite Professor of Pharmacy, Professor Usifoh said his focus is to ensure partnerships and collaborations for Nigerian pharmacists across the world .
The Congress, which holds in a different country each year is scheduled to hold in Cape Town, South Afirca in 2024.
The New President of FIP, Paul Sinclair was also ratified by the council at the meeting held on 23rd September 2023.
FIP president, Paul had a chat with the PSN President on ways to create synergy with Nigeria going forward.
Attendees were enagaged on the future of pharmacy, which evolved towards spending more time with patients, improvement of patientcare and patient-pharmacist relationships and ensuring a strengthening of collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
CEOAFRICA gathered that the delegate from The Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa, Dr. Mariet J Eksteen(PhD), also had an audience with PSN President Professor Cyril Odianose Usifoh where she expressed the readiness Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa to provide information and support for Nigerian Pharmacists who will be attending the 2024 edition of the congress, scheduled to hold in South Africa.
Delegates from the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria at the ongoing FIP congress with the PSN President leading the delegation, alongside his wife, Pharm Prof (Mrs) Stella Usifoh are Pharm Gbenga Falabi , National Secretary , Prof Charles Esimone. Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University , Pharmacist Nike Ogunlola,the Oyo state Officer of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria(PCN) , Associate Professor(Mrs) Arinola Joda,. Others include two Past Presidents of PSN namely; Pharm Tony Akhimen, Pharm. Olumide Akintayo, PCN Registrar Pharm. Ibrahim Ahmed, IPS Chairman, Pharm. Sola Solarin,, ACPN National Chairman Pharm.(Prince) Wale Oladigbolu, Pharm. Layi Abidoye, Pharm. Osaretin Jaiyeola, Pharm. Funmi Fagboyo, Pharm. Beatrice Obiageli, Pharm. Amaka Okafor, Pharm. Lizette, Pharm.Ezenwany N-chris, Pharm. Tina Alaedu, , Pharm. Okey Okonkwo, Pharm. Williams Imoboho, Pharm. Sheri and , Dr. Elijah Mohammed (FPSN) and the immediate past Registrar of Pharmacy Council of Nigeria .
Other attendees at the event included official representatives from FIP member organisations, FIP Bureau members, and FIP section representatives from around the world.
The FIP, with Headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands, plays the crucial role of advancing the pharmacy profession, and providing access to medicines and expertise of pharmacists to people, irrespective of their location in the world.
