The Delta Police Command on Monday paraded three suspected kidnappers and recovered four AK-47 rifles.

Parading the suspects at the police headquarters in Asaba, the Public Relations Officer in the command, DSP Bright Edafe, stated that kidnapping is a crime of concern in the State.

He said, “You will recall that a few days ago, the Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, personally briefed you on the summary of the Command’s activities and achievements from July 1, 2023, to September 30, 2023.

“It is my great pleasure to inform you all today that the policing strategies emplaced by the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun are paying off handsomely in Delta State, as the command is experiencing a harvest of achievements.

“This recent achievement has demonstrated the Command’s preparedness for effective policing during the ember months and beyond.

“Kidnapping being a crime of concern in the State has been dealt a huge blow through our swift policing interventions.

“It could be recalled that about two months ago, the Command arrested some suspected kidnappers, including one Ese-Oghene Ezekiel, who masterminded the kidnap of his brother (Name withheld) and members of his household at Oha community, Okpe LGA.

“One Regina Ogana, the brother’s wife was shot dead in the process. The initial success notwithstanding, the Commissioner of Police gave the Divisional Police Officer, Oreorokpe Division marching order to ensure every other person involved in the crime was brought to book”

According to Edafe, on October 13, 2023, the Divisional Police Officer, Oreorokpe, mobilized men of the Divisional Anti-Crime Patrol team, stormed Ofuoma in Ughelli North LGA, where two male suspects; James Aboyo 21, and one Solomon Gbolode were arrested for their involvement in the incident.

Edafe added that the team proceeded to search the premises and hideout where one Blessing Deco 22, was arrested while other gang members who sighted the police team, took to their heels.

The suspects are presently assisting police investigation while a manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang is ongoing.

Edafe said items recovered from the suspects include four AK-47 rifles, a pump action gun, five packs of improvised explosives, and 58 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition among others.
