The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it has deployed over 35,000 workers comprising 20,000 regular marshals and 15,000 special marshals, across the country to ensure smooth traffic flow during yuletide.

The Corps Marshal and Chief Executive Officer of FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, made this known during a national flag-off campaign of special patrol operation tagged ​ ​​”​Operation Zero Tolerance​”​ in Tuesday in Kaduna.

He said the operation became necessary because the season has always been a challenging period for FRSC operation.

“In this year’s exercise, we have mobilized about 20,000 of the regular marshals and 15,000 of the special marshals who would be. Assisted by volunteers from some civil organizations and members of other security agencies,” Mr. ​Oyeyemi added.

Flagging-off the campaign, the Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Yero, who was represented by his Deputy, Audu Bajoga, said the state government would continue to accord FRSC its due priority in the scheme of things and would equally partner with the corps to ensure that the desired road culture was attained in the state.

Mr. Yero implored road users to conform to all road traffic regulations to ensure that lives are safe on Nigerian roads and goods as well as services transported with ease across the state.

In his welcome address, the Zonal Commanding Officer, RS1, Kaduna, Victor Nwokolo, condemned the disregard of traffic rules and regulations due.

He said during the 26 days of the operations scheduled to run between December 19 to January 13, 2015, officers of the command would be ‘terror’ to road traffic violators, ‘friends’ to law abiding drivers and compassionate to road traffic crash victims.

The objective of the operation is to ensure that all motorists have safe and stress-free travels during the yuletide period, thereby ensuring smooth transition into year 2015 and beyond.
