The crisis rocking Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over last governorship primaries held in the state may have been resolved, following the plan to withdraw the court case instituted by former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, challenging the outcome of the exercise.

Obanikoro, who contested the governorship primaries and lost to Mr Jimi Agbaje, had locked horns with the former deputy national chairman of PDP, Chief Olabode George and former Minister of State for Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, both of whom he accused of rigging the exercise for their favoured candidate.

There have been a lot of unsavoury publications and exchange of words between the two camps, while Obanikoro’s law suit challenging the outcome of the primaries was before a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Nigerian Tribune gathered on Tuesday that the minister might have withdrawn the case from court, as he was said to have told some of his aides that there was possibility that he would be offered ministerial post.

A source told the Nigerian Tribune that the national leadership of the party had also offered him the opportunity to present his son, Bolaji, as running mate to Agbaje, while it was said that he was offered undisclosed number of commissionership slots in the cabinet if PDP wins.

An agreement on a power-sharing formula may have been part of the deal struck by the two camps in PDP to settle their rift.

Under the deal, details of which were still being kept under wraps, the PDP administration would form an all-inclusive cabinet if the party’s candidate wins the election on February 28.

A source close to the camp of Chief George also confirmed that Obanikoro will withdraw the case from court and had, therefore, been offered to take back his ministerial job.

The source could not speak on other conditions on which the truce was reached, but doubted the possibility of the former minister going back to Defence Ministry, including others who resigned along with him to seek elective office.

“It is not only Obanikoro that has been asked to take back his job. It is a palliative thing, don’t forget, it is just for a few months. I don’t know how the constitutional issue surrounding that would be resolved. You know the Senate is not in session currently, every lawmaker is much more concerned with election matter now,” he said.

It was gathered that there was jubilation on Tuesday, as supporters of Obanikoro gathered in his campaign office in Ikeja GRA to celebrate the news that he had been asked to return as minister.

The former minister was said to have scheduled to hold a press conference in Lagos today, to shed light on the new agreement reached between him and the national leadership of PDP, as well as his next line of action.
