Nigeria’s Falconets have reached the final round of the U-20 World Cup qualifiers after seeing off Tanzania 2-1 over the weekend.
The Nigerian side had drawn the first leg of the encounter 1-1 in Dar es Salaam last Sunday.
But a week later, the girls booked their ticket for the next stage of the African qualification series when they defeated their foes 2-1 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Sunday. Both legs ended 3-2 on aggregate.
Strikes from Janet Akekoromowei and Comfort Folorunsho got the win as Nigeria reached the final round of the qualification phase.
Akekoromowei’s goal came in the 16th minute but Jamila Mnunduka levelled scores for the visitors just five minutes later. However, on the hour mark, Nigeria restored the advantage as Folorunsho powered home a header for Coach Christopher Danjuma’s ladies.
Nigeria, who have never missed any edition of the competition, will take on Burundi in the final qualification game for a place in next year’s World Cup billed for Colombia.
The Falconets ended their 2022 U-20 World Cup campaign at the quarter-final stage.
