Oyo State Governor, Makinde receives newly deployed NSCDC Commandant, pledges support

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde received the newly deployed Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for Oyo State Command, Commandant Augustine Padonu, in his office at the State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

Commandant Padonu, who assumed office on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor to familiarize himself and to also discuss ways to strengthen the existing partnership between the NSCDC and the Oyo State Government in ensuring the security of lives and property in the State.

During the meeting, Governor Makinde commended the NSCDC for its efforts in maintaining peace and order in the State. He noted that the Corps had played a crucial role in preventing and responding to security threats, and expressed his appreciation for its dedication and professionalism.

Governor Makinde however, assured Commandant Padonu of his administration’s commitment to providing the necessary support to the NSCDC to enable it carry out its mandate effectively. He pledged to address the Corps’ logistical and infrastructural needs, including the provision of vehicles and office accommodation.

He emphasized the importance of synergy among the various security outfits in sharing intelligence, conducting joint operations, and responding promptly to security incidents.

Among issues trashed out at the meeting is the need for improved collaboration between the NSCDC and other security agencies in the State.

Commandant Padonu, in his remarks, thanked the Governor for his support and promised to work closely with the State Government to address security challenges in Oyo State.

He outlined his plans to enhance the operational capacity of the NSCDC in the State, including the deployment of more personnel and the establishment of new formations in strategic locations.

Padonu assured the Governor that the NSCDC would continue to discharge its duties with diligence and professionalism, in line with its statutory mandate.

Commandant Padonu expressed his gratitude to the Governor for his warm reception and pledged to work tirelessly to justify the confidence reposed in him.

The meeting ended as both parties expressing optimism that the renewed partnership between the Oyo State Government and the NSCDC would lead to improved security outcomes in the State.
