EU set to monitor 2015 elections

As part of measures to ensure free and fair elections, The Federal Government and the European Union have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) towards the monitoring of the 2015 general elections

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Danjuma Sheni, who signed the documents on behalf of the Nigerian government, in Abuja on Monday stressed the need for neutral observers in electoral process

"Such observers lend credibility to the legitimacy of the elections. This is precisely why Nigeria is willing to sign this MOU with the European Union Delegation. The EU observed our 2011 elections which were declared one of the freest and fairest elections in Nigeria,” he said.

“I want to state that Nigeria is committed to having free, fair, credible, transparent and peaceful elections.

The Permanent Secretary expressed eagerness that the government of Nigeria looks forward to receiving the EU observer mission team to monitor our election.
