The Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Anambra State Command, Adeoye Irelewuyi, has issued a stern warning to motorists against answering and making phone calls while driving.
Irelewuyi, who spoke through the Corps Acting Public Education Officer, Margret Onabe, said that making use of phones on the steering wheel is not only dangerous but a violation of traffic laws.
According to him, road accidents could be linked to usage of mobile phones on the steering.
He urged motorists to desist from the act.
The Corps Commander admonished motorists to always stop their cars and park by the side to make or answer calls, adding that any gadget capable of distracting drivers should not be used while driving.
He added that there was a noticeable reduction in the rate of motor accidents during the last Yuletide when compared to previous years, attributing the development to the committed efforts of the Command in ensuring that motorists obey traffic rules.
Irelewuyi disclosed that the Command has been carrying out public enlightenment programmes on radio, and visiting parks regularly to ensure that operators comply with the rules and regulations.
