Wife of Lagos lawyer and human rights activist, Mrs. Funmi Falana, has urged the federal government  to stop playing politics with the rescue of over 200 Chibok girls from Boko Haram captivity in the interest of the country.

She frowned on the inability of the federal government to secure the release of the students abducted from a school in Chibok, Borno State by Boko Haram last April.

Mrs Falana expressed her concern during the annual Christmas party with the children of the Erelu Adebayo Motherless Babies' Home in Iyin-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The lawyer donated items worth several thousands of naira to the children. The items included toiletries, packs of Indomie noodles, children’s toys and other items.

She said it was appalling that rather than intensifying efforts at getting the girls back, the government has been playing the blame game with the matter, adding that government was not doing enough to free the captives.

Falana disclosed that the human rights' community would not rest on its oars until the girls are rescued alive.

According to her, “It is unfortunate; we have been making the advocacy at every opportunity that government should bring back our girls alive. We need them alive, they are precious to us, we are crying for their return. We don't want Nigerian leaders to play politics with the lives of these children. The future is theirs. We need and want them to be brought back.”

She also urged well-to-do individuals to always remember the less privileged in the society, especially the motherless by assisting them with whatever they could afford.

“By the circumstance of their birth, they should not feel less privileged. It is not by their own making. In fact, they are as important as their mates out there. We want to make them feel loved. We do this every year to make them happy,” she said.

“Last year, we gave them a big grinder. Penultimate year, we gave them a generator. We also donated a computer set to them some time ago. But this year, we concentrated on the personal needs and food items of the children.”
