Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun East senatorial district of Ogun State have rejected the alleged moves to deny the Chairman of the Mobilisation and Organisation Committee of the party in the South-west, Mr. Buruji Kashamu his senatorial ticket.

Sources within the party said there are moves to retrieve the ticket from him and hand it over to former Governor Gbenga Daniel, who had earlier announced his withdrawal from the race for the Ogun-east senatorial district.

The party members drawn from the nine local government areas that make up the senatorial district endorsed Kashamu, who had recently won the ticket at a primary election conducted in Ijebu-Ode as their candidate.

They therefore vowed to work against the PDP should Kashamu, who they described as a popular choice is dropped for the former governor.

Drawn from Ijebu North, Ijebu East, Ijebu North-east, Ogun Waterside, Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu, Ikenne, Remo North, Odogbolu local government areas, the PDP members converged on the Goodluck Jonathan Political Centre in Ijebu-Igbo on Sunday to endorse Kashamu.

Daniel, according to the state PDP Chairman, Chief Bayo Dayo had about two days before the senatorial primary election written to formally inform the party of his withdrawal from the race.

But the party members, most of whom also voted as delegates during the last senatorial primary election endorsed Kashamu’s candidacy by affirmation.

They however vowed to vote against the PDP in the senatorial district if the ticket was taken from Kashamu and handed over to ex-governor Daniel. Addressing the delegates, the PDP state chairman assured that he would communicate their decision regarding their endorsement of Kashamu as the senatorial candidate for Ogun East to the appropriate authorities.

Dayo stated that Kashamu remained the best candidate of the PDP for the senatorial election.

He therefore urged the delegates and party supporters to return to their various local government areas to campaign vigorously for Kashamu’s victory in the 2015 election.

“I’ve heard what the nine local government areas have resolved. This is the best man in Ogun East Senatorial district. I’ve heard you and I’ll communicate this to the appropriate quarters. The confidence you have given him is to reassure him that you will not let him down. Go back to your local government and try your best to make sure that you deliver your local government,” Dayo said.

Also speaking, Kashamu said that he had undergone a lot of pressure to concede the senatorial ticket to the former governor, who never contested the primary election.

He however noted that contrary to Daniel’s alleged claim that his group did not participate in the party primaries, some of his supporters had actually emerged as the candidates of the PDP for the 2015 polls in the district.
