An unidentified trailer driver has reportedly fallen off the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway bridge between Berger, Lagos State, and Isheri, Ogun State, a police officer said on Saturday.
It was gathered that a trailer had crashed into the bridge, leaving the front part of the trailer hanging off the edge of the bridge.
According to the police officer who spoke to our correspondent anonymously, the accident occurred early Saturday morning.
He however noted that the cause of the accident as of the time of filing this report had yet to be identified.
Following the accident, men of the Nigerian Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps were on the ground to maintain the free flow of traffic and security of lives and properties.
According to the policeman who claimed he had just arrived at the scene, preliminary investigations revealed that the driver fell off the bridge as a result of the accident.
He said, “We got here about 10 minutes ago (8:00 am) and we heard that the driver fell off the bridge. That is the information we have at hand now.
“We are yet to ascertain what caused the accident, we have no information on the whereabouts of the driver, and neither can we ascertain yet if there were casualties,” he added.
However, efforts to speak to eyewitnesses proved abortive as nobody was willing to speak on the cause of the accident, the whereabouts of the driver and if there were casualties.
On January 2, two persons died while 10 others were injured in two separate crashes that occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on New Year’s Day.
The lone crash occurred at about 8am around Isara Remo, headquarters of Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and led to the death of two passengers while three others were injured.
The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at the Isara General Hospital morgue.
