The College of law of the Chrisland University, Abeokuta Ogun State Nigeria held her Inaugural Law Dinner titled Pathway to a successful Legal career.
The event which was attended by the luminaries from various shades of legal profession in Nigeria was held at the College of Law Large Lecture Theatre of the Chrisland University Abeokuta on Thursday, 22nd February, 2024 with the student’s procession.
The Keynote Speaker and a constitutional Lawyer, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Osun State spoke on the need for the Law students (otherwise known as aspiring lawyers) to understand the ethics of the profession. In his words he quoted the words of Aare Afe Babalola, OFR, SAN that:
“There is a lot of difference between law or the knowledge of law – and practice of law. Knowledge of law does not itself guarantee success at the Bar. In other words, one having a string of degrees in law does not guarantee success at the Bar. This is not, however, to say that one can be a good lawyer without a good knowledge of law. A sound knowledge of law is extremely important, as a lawyer draws from it at all times in his practice. But there are other equally important factors which lawyers sometimes ignore at their peril” … Chief Afe Babalola, OFR, SAN.
Agboke reiterated the need for the students to focus on their academics and avoid distractions from social media and peer pressures.
In his welcome Address, the Acting Dean/Provost of the College, Dr. Kayode Akinsola emphasized on the need for the students to take the bull by the horns from the beginning of their studies in the university.
The acting Dean further said that Chrisland University has the best of the facility for aspiring Lawyers who might be thinking of having Law degree in Nigeria.
