A building housing several shops has collapsed in Ochanja market, Onitsha, with many feared trapped under the rubble.

It was gathered that the building collapsed on Monday evening and those feared trapped are traders.

Details about the number of people trapped in the building remain sketchy, but a video from the scene shows traders lamenting the incident and scrambling to salvage what they could.

It is expected that Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo will visit the market today to ascertain the extent of damage and visit those affected.

Officials of the Anambra State Physical Planning Board and the Material Testing Personnel were also billed to visit the scene for proper evaluation.
