Burkina Faso President, Blaise Compaore
From Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that President Blaise Compaore had escaped an assassination attempt from a renegade soldier.
It was gathered that the assailant identified as Romuald Tuina, was a member of the presidential guard and he was shot dead in a gun battle with security forces. Sources disclosed that Tuina was wanted for crimes including a bank robbery in which he was alleged to have stolen millions of West African francs.
It was also discovered that Tuina, before the incident, had reportedly been hiding in an unnamed neighbouring country.
The ministry of justice, in a release, said a prison certificate of discharge issued from a foreign country was found on Tuina. But, the main concern is the fact that a wanted soldier successfully penetrates presidential security and nearly accomplished his mission.
History revealed that President Compaore came to power in 1987 through a military coup in which the then-president Thomas Sankara was murdered, although Compaore insisted that his death was an accident, despite the fact that circumstances surrounding Sankara’s death was not investigated.
