The Lagos State Water Corporation has announced compensation for scores of workers disengaged from the organisation.

The corporation revealed this in a statement by its spokesperson, Kehinde Fashola on Friday.

This comes after the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Service Employees on Wednesday protested the sacking of over 300 employees of the LWC.

The protesters, joined by other workers’ unions and civil society groups, marched from Ikeja Under-bridge to the state House of Assembly, Alausa, demanding the reversal of the layoffs and a democratic running of the corporation.

In a statement titled ‘Lagos Water Corporation fulfils promise, pays compensation and other benefits to disengaged staff,’ Fashola announced that the LWC Managing Director, Mukhtaar Tijani, confirmed the payment of compensation to the affected workers on Friday.

Tijani thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the state government for the “prompt payment of the three months’ notice pay and two months’ severance compensation to affected staff, thereby alleviating the impact of the current situation.”

According to Fashola, Mukhtaar expressed sympathy for the staff and emphasised that the ongoing restructuring was essential for propelling the corporation forward and restoring its former prestige.
