Drums are rolling for the significant turn of events to be experienced at the 2024 Conference of the West African Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (WASPEN), an organisation committed to the advancement and improvement of nutritional care in West Africa, with stakeholders, dignitaries and experts scheduled to be in attendance.
The WASPEN conference will hold at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Hall 36, Lagos State, Nigeria from June 3, 2024, to June 7, 2024.
As the countdown closes near to the event, CEOAFRICA presents to you the profile of the Keynote Speaker of the conference, Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi.
Dr. Mrs Kemi Ogunyemi
Ogunyemi is the Lagos State Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Health. She served 2 terms as a Commissioner at the Lagos State Health Service Commission from 2015 to 2023. She trained as a nurse at the University College Hospital, Ibadan and holds a Bachelor of Science with honours degree in Health Services Management from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom (UK). She also holds a Masters in Health Care Administration and a Doctorate in Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix, Arizona, United States.
Kemi Ogunyemi has held several leadership positions in the UK and US where she holds nursing licenses. She was awarded a transformational leadership award at Emory University Hospital in the US in 2011. In 2013, she was project lead in the UK where she helped set up the first ever nurse-led chemotherapy unit at the Finchley Memorial Hospital, London where she was the lead cancer nurse.
Dr. Ogunyemi returned to Nigeria in 2014 and worked as the Director of Nursing at the Cardiac Renal Center in Gbagada. In the private sector, Mrs Ogunyemi was a nurse consultant/director at Marcelle Ruth Cancer Center, in Victoria Island, Lagos. She is the co-founder of Alfo health care initiative, an NGO dedicated to assist underprivileged women and children to gain access to affordable health care. Dr. Ogunyemi is also a founding member and trustee of Women in Healthcare Network (WIHCN).
A strong advocate for women inclusion in governance, Dr. Ogunyemi served two-term as Chairperson of the Women in Politics arm of Women in Management, Business and Governance (WimBiz). She was also Deputy Director of the Medical Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Committee. An avid football fan, Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi supports Arsenal, married with children and grandchildren.
The professional clinical health expert will be speaking on the conference theme “Advancing Clinical Nutrition Care: Regional Guidelines and Standards for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition”.
