The Federal Capital Territory Development Secretariat has empowered and graduated 184 people, comprising of mainly commercial sex workers, destitute, physically challenged alongside street beggars to get back to the society and earn a dignified means of living.

The areas they were empowered include welding, hair dressing, computer appreciation, embroidery, electronics, metal fabrication and bead making.

Blessing Onyeche Onu, the secretary of the social Development Secretariat, said the commencement of training at the centres began in July 2011 when the centres were commissioned with about 3000 participants in various skills such as hair dressing, beads making, catering, tailoring, computer appreciation, wielding, carpentry and shoe making learnt by them so that they could be integrated into the larger society.

She however urged the grandaunts to build on what they have learnt and ensure that the skill they learnt is not be in vain as they have been equipped to contribute to the nation.
