WASPEN, LUTH, FIDSON’s organised Health Walk to raise awareness on malnutrition in Nigeria, holds June 4

Health Walk organised by the West African Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (WASPEN), Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and Fidson Healthcare Plc, will hold by 8:30am on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

The objective of the walk is to raise awareness about malnutrition in Nigeria and promote healthy living. WASPEN Founder, Dr. Teresa Pounds told CEOAFRICA that a patient admitted to a hospital may suffer malnourishment during their stay, thereby impacting their illness, length of stay, and cost of critical care, hence the reason for the health walk.

Scheduled to kick-off from Hall 36 Carpark through Ojuelegba, Bishop Street, back to LUTH, the health walk is part of the programme of the upcoming WASPEN 2024 Conference holding from from Monday June 3, 2024, to Friday June 7, 2024, at LUTH under the theme “Advancing Clinical Nutrition Care: Regional Guidelines and Standards for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.”

Activities of the health walk include nutrition education, distribution of promotional materials, and nutrition education on Astymin, among others.

To lead the Health Walk are, the First Lady of Lagos State, Her Excellency, Mrs. Jumoke Sanwo-olu; the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Fidson, Mr. Fidelis Ayebae; and the Chief Medical Doctor of LUTH, Prof. Wasiu Lanre Adeyemo fas.

Chairman of this year’s conference is the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Federal Ministry of Health, Professor Ali Muhammed Pate; the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu is the Chief Host of the event; and the Host is the Chief Medical Director, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Professor Wasiu ‘Lanre Adeyemo (FAS).

Keynote Speaker of the conference is the Special Adviser on Health to the Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Yemi Ogunyemi. Special Guests are the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Professor Cyril Usifoh, and the President of the Dietitians Association of Nigeria (DAN), Professor Olivia Afam-Anene.
