Institute for Advanced Medical Research and Training commemorates 44th anniversary with IAMRAT Day today

The Institute for Advanced Medical Research and Training (IAMRAT) will by 10am today, Friday June 7, 2024, hold her IAMRAT Day at Paul Henricks Lecture Theatre, College of Medicine, UCH, Ibadan.

This was announced in a statement by the host and Director of the institute, Professor Ikeoluwa O. Ajayi obtained by CEOAFRICA.

The event is in commemoration of the 44th Anniversary of the establishment and in remembrance of the institute’s benefactor and donor of the Biode Building, Pa Kayode Fashina.

Marked with a symposium themed “Translational Pharmaceutical Research, and Drug Development: The Role of Research Institutes,” the chief host of the event is the Provost, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Prof. Olayinka Omigbodun, FAS.

The chairman of the IAMRAT Day is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, FRSC.

The Institute for Advanced Medical Research and Training (IAMRAT) was established in 1980 as one of the academic divisions of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan primarily for co-ordination of multidisciplinary research programmes in the College. It has 14 units which are: Ethics Committee (UI/UCHEC); Drug and Cancer Research Unit; Environmental Sciences & Toxicology; Genetics & Cancer; Molecular Entomology; Malaria Research; Pharmaceutical Research; Environmental Health; Bioethics; Epidemological Research Services; Neurodegenrative Unit; Palliative Care; HIV/AIDs and African Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences.

It main objectives are to, Provide leadership and direction on basic/applied medical research and conduct multidisciplinary research in the College of Medicine and University in general; Coordinate medical research activities and ensure adherence to standard ethical guidelines in the conduct of research involving human subjects; Provide avenue for the exchange of ideas among research investigators and policy makers; Serve as a central research base and provide up to date facilities for training of postgraduate students and young scientists in modern biomedical research; Organize training courses, workshops, seminars and symposium for the purpose of updating research Scientists and other interested individuals about contemporary research techniques and findings; and Attract Grants for research from both local and international funding agencies.
