Sickle Cell Hope Alive Foundation (SCHAF) is currently holding an event commemorating the World Sickle Cell Day under the theme “Hope Through Progress: Advancing Global Sickle Cell Care & Treatment”.
Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University, Prof. Peace Babalola is the Keynote Speaker at the event which started 9am today.
Marked in honour of Late Chief Adeseun Ogundoyin, the event is holding at Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, Opposite UCH, Ibadan to bring hope to thousands of people living with sickle cell anaemia in Nigeria through engagements of youths in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In line with the World Sickle Cell Day, which is marked June 19 every year, SCHAF focuses her events on emphasising that sickle cell disease is not a death sentence, with plans to bring hope to patients through several public events
Sickle cell is a condition where the red blood cells are abnormally shaped like a sickle. People with the disease suffer frequent blood shortage (anaemia), joint pains, sensitivity to extreme weather, yellowish eyes, and generally look frail.
