Profile of Professor Odun-Ayo, Chrisland University’s 2nd Inaugural Lecturer

Professor Isaac Ayodeji Odun-Ayo will deliver the 2nd Inaugural Lecture of Chrisland University, Ogun State on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the University Auditorium by 11am. Titled “’Who are these that fly as cloud?’... Scaling Computing Metaphors”, the lecture will focus on scaling computing metaphors.

Professor Odun-Ayo hails from Efon-Alaaye Town, in Efon-Alaaye Local Government Area of Ekiti State. His academic journey began at St. George's Primary School in Zaria. He continued his secondary education at the Nigerian Military School, Zaria, and graduated with his secondary school leaving certificate. He joined the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1980 and was enlisted in the Nigerian Air Force as a member of the Nigerian Defence Academy Regular Course 27.

Odun-Ayo's quest for academic excellence continued at the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State. He earned a Diploma in Data Processing with Distinction, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He also earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Computer Science from the University. he also earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Computer Science from the University.

He was the pioneer Team Leader of the Nigerian Air Force in-house Software Development Project. Notably, he led a team of Nigerian Air Force Officers to develop the Supply Management Information System for the Nigerian Air Force in 2003, the first ever software to be built in-house by the NAF. The Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna appointed him as the Pioneer Director, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), from 2008 to 2010. In recognition of his significant contribution to national productivity and development, in March 2009, President Musa Yar’adua awarded him the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) Award.

He was then appointed as a Directing Staff (Lecturer) and later the Director ICT at the National Defence College, Abuja (2010–2012). He held positions as the Director of Research and Development at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters, Abuja; and later became the Commander, 401 Aircraft Maintenance Depot, Logistics Command, Ikeja; the Chief of Aircraft Engineering, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force; and the Director of Production, Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria. After 34 years of conscientious service in the Nigerian Air Force, he retired in 2016.

Professor Odun-Ayo has amassed a wealth of teaching experience, beginning his academic career in 2010 as a Senior Faculty Member at the National Defence College, Abuja. He then served as a Fellow (Senior Lecturer) in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Lagos (2016–2019). He was appointed a Senior Lecturer at Covenant University, Ota where he served from 2016 until 2021. Professor Odun-Ayo's leadership extended beyond academics, as he actively participated in shaping the university's future by serving on the Covenant University Administrative Board. He diligently guided approximately thirty (30) undergraduates and five (5) postgraduate students during his time at Covenant University. Professor Odun-Ayo was at the World Congress on Engineering, Imperial College, London, between 4-6 July, 2018, where he delivered three papers on cloud computing. By virtue of his academic accomplishments, Professor Odun-Ayo was selected as a participant in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings - THE's Academic Reputation Survey 2021.

In June 2022, he was appointed a Professor of Computer Science, at the prestigious Chrisland University. Professor Odun-Ayo's well-rounded experience culminated in his current role as Head of the Department of Computer Sciences, Chrisland University, overseeing computer science, software engineering, and cybersecurity programmes. He is also a Member of Screening Panel and Support Teams; as well as Member of Ceremonies and Honours Committee at Chrisland University. Within 6 months of his arrival at Chrisland University, he organized a grant seminar and led the Department of Computer Sciences to a successful accreditation of the software engineering, and cybersecurity programmes.

Professor Odun- Ayo is a member of the International Association of Engineers (IAENG), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Information Science Institute (ISI), the Nigerian Computer Society (NCS), Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) and a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Management.

Professor Isaac Odun-Ayo has the IBM Cloud Application Developer 2019 - Mastery Award with a proven expertise to build, run, deploy, and develop applications on a cloud development platform, using IBM Cloud. Through the badge earned, he demonstrated advanced proficiency on topics such as Cloud Computing, Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry, DevOps, REST Architecture, Watson APIs, Web Architecture, Cloud Security, Node.js, Express Framework, ECMAScript, and React. He also earned an IBM Artificial Intelligence Analyst - Explorer Award 2019 with requisite skills in AI, Natural Language Processing (NLP), chatbots, and computer vision, using Watson Assistant, Discovery, Machine Learning, Watson Studio, Knowledge Studio, Visual Recognition, Tone Analyzer, and Natural Language Understanding.

Professor Odun-Ayo's distinguished career bridges academia and industry. He has contributed significantly to the field of computer science. He has several published works, encompassing chapters in books, cited conference proceedings, technical reports, and publications in esteemed academic journals. Most of his published works are cited in highly in the academic field and reputable journals. His numerous eBooks, explore the fields of cloud computing, leadership, and romance, which further solidify his reputation as an erudite scholar.
