The Director-general of Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Joseph Ikem Ogumodu, has revealed that fake and substandard products are the major cause for the closure of many industries contributing to very high unemployment rate in the country.

The SON Director-General made this observation in Abuja during the National Sensitisation Workshop with the theme ‘Save the Nation, Shun Substandard Products’, organised by the National association of Nigeria Traders (NANTS), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter.

Deliberating on the theme, Ikem Ogumodu posited that fake and substandard product exterminate the authenticity of the good products thereby causing massive close down of factories which in turn renders many jobless.

He also called on Nigerians to understand the fact that any imported good creates job for foreigners while the nation remain jobless patronising imported commodities.

He however urged Nigerians to persevere in patronising Nigeria made products to create more employment and also boost the economy of the nation.
