Severe flooding has cut off the Azare-Ja’amare road along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway in Bauchi State, causing significant disruptions to transportation and raising concerns about the safety of nearby communities.

The road, a critical artery in the northeast geopolitical zone, has been rendered impassable due to a large crater created by the floodwaters.

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, inspected the affected area and has now reported the situation to the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi. He expressed concern that if the flow of water is not managed effectively, surrounding communities could face the risk of being submerged.

The road damage comes just two weeks after heavy rains severely affected another section of the federal highway, particularly between Malori and Guskuri villages in the Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The recent flooding has worsened the situation, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes and creating significant logistical challenges.

Bauchi State has been grappling with severe flooding over the past few weeks, which has resulted in the loss of lives and the destruction of thousands of homes.
