A United States Navy aircraft with two crew members aboard has crashed near Mount Rainier in Washington state, prompting an active search and rescue operation.
The crash occurred on Tuesday evening during what the Navy described as a routine training flight.
The aircraft involved in the incident is an EA-18G Growler, an electronic attack jet from the F/A-18 family of aircraft.
As of 7 p.m. on October 15, the Navy reported that the status of the two crew members remained unknown.
Rescue efforts are being led by a Navy MH-60S helicopter, which was dispatched from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, located north of Seattle.
